Dirty Dancing Debut at High Hampton Inn

May 8th, 2017 by Staff

May is here and that means Dirty Dancing is near! Tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains, High Hampton Inn has been a multi-generational mountain getaway for decades and recently served as a filming location for the Dirty Dancing remake. With its scenic views and southern charm, it was no surprise that producers chose the resort for the 30th anniversary remake of the 80s classic.

As fans of the film know, the story follows the journey of Baby, a budding young woman on vacation with her wealthy parents when she unexpectedly falls for Johnny, the resort’s rugged and charismatic dance instructor. As with all classic romance films, the couple must overcome obstacles, but we won’t give up too many of the details! The upcoming ABC TV remake will air on May 24th and High Hampton Inn is celebrating with a special viewing party.

Access to the exclusive event is $44 a person and includes a special dinner menu, games and dance lessons to help guests move and sway like Swayze. The festivities will also include a cash bar serving up hand-crafted cocktails inspired by the film. The event will make you feel as if you are the star, with the staff wearing custom Kellerman’s t-shirts. Guests are encouraged to dress in their best 50s and 60s attire. Dinner will be served starting at 6:30 p.m. and the movie screening will begin at 8:00 p.m.

For those traveling for the special event, High Hampton Inn is offering a special May Weekday Getaway package starting at $125 per person, based on double occupancy. Due to limited availability, this offer may be unavailable on select dates. Please contact reservations at High Hampton Inn for more details and to secure your reservation: 800-334-2551.

History and Heritage at High Hampton Inn

April 6th, 2017 by Staff

From its inception, High Hampton has served as a scenic, family escape. For 94 seasons, the Resort has hosted guests from across the globe, but unknown to many is just how far back the Resort’s history extends. The property’s history can be traced back to General Wade Hampton, confederate general and Governor of South Carolina. General Hampton built the Hampton Hunting Lodge, where the Inn now sits today.

High Hampton Inn was not officially known by this name until the property came into the possession of General Hampton’s niece, Caroline Hampton. As a child, Caroline spent many a summer day fishing, hunting and horseback riding with her uncle on the grounds of the estate, so it was no surprise when she and her new husband, Dr. William Stewart Halsted, chose to honeymoon at the Hampton Hunting Lodge in the summer of 1890. It was under the care of Caroline and William that the property was deemed High Hampton in honor of High Halsted, William’s ancestral grounds in England.

Under the care of the Halsteds, the grounds of High Hampton flourished, planting many exotic trees and shrubs that are still found on the property today. Although a private estate under the Halsteds, many area residents recall the warm hospitality and coziness that both the couple and property provided to visitors – qualities that are still embodied today.

The property was posted for sale in 1922, capturing the eye of a business man named Mr. E.L. McKee. It is here that the High Hampton Inn we known today holds its humble beginnings.

As preparations for the 95th season are underway, Will McKee, owner and grandson to E.L. McKee, and the High Hampton staff continue to offer the same stunning views and southern hospitality that have made High Hampton a beloved retreat among guests throughout the years. A picture is worth one thousand words. See more High Hampton Inn history for yourself: https://www.highhamptoninn.com/nowandthen-slides.aspx.

Celebrating our 95th Season

High Hampton has been a beacon of Southern hospitality since the nineteenth century and we look forward to continuing this tradition during our 95th season. The High Hampton story began with the Hampton family’s yearly summer travels, by train from Columbia to Greenville and then by horse and buggy up the rough mountain roads to Cashiers. Many things have changed since 1818 but the charm of High Hampton Inn has remained throughout the years.
