October 6th, 2017 by Staff

With fall in full swing, High Hampton Inn & Country Club is here to make your family getaway a little sweeter! The resort has prided itself on its multi-generational family appeal and sense of Southern hospitality for nearly a century. Guests from all walks of life can find a cozy and relaxing home away from home at High Hampton Inn. From the gorgeous scenery, cool mountain breezes, rustic accommodations and soothing atmosphere, High Hampton Inn continues to offer a one of a kind community experience. High Hampton Inn is the perfect family retreat offering parent-approved activities such as 15+ miles of hiking trails, lawn games, Llama Olympics and arts and crafts

We sat down with one former guest who knows and loves the lands so much that she eventually found her way back to her High Hampton home. Pro Shop team member Nicole Russell tells how High Hampton Inn plays a huge part in her life.

How long have you been a part of the High Hampton community?

Nicole is a native to Cashiers, NC and the High Hampton Inn. She says; “My family moved here in the early 1970’s. My childhood was spent at High Hampton, exploring the waterfalls, hiking the mountains, playing golf and riding horses. Some of my favorite memories of High Hampton were of the evening entertainment.”

What is your current connection to High Hampton Inn?

Nicole says that after moving away for 16 years, she decided to come back in September of 2016, with her family in tow. “My husband was willing to leave his law enforcement job of 18 years to move to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. I am so grateful to my husband, with his job as a Deputy, it opened a door for us to move home.” Soon after the move she was offered a position in the ProShop, which she happily took. Nicole  is elated to finally be home at High Hampton Inn, stating; “The feeling of coming home and working at the one place I have loved my entire life has been surreal!”

What was it like to grow up as part of the High Hampton Inn Community?

“My grandparents’ home was across from the 16th hole.  I have countless stories that I share with my children all about the happy times spent there. So many happy occasions took place in our home near hole 16! Playing golf was part of our daily routine,” Nicole reminisces. “In the winter, we would go sledding until our toes were numb. My grandfather always had hot chocolate and a warm fire waiting.”

What, in your opinion, makes High Hampton Inn so special, especially for families?

“High Hampton is a magical place; a place families come to visit time after time. Some are new to the area, while others have been visiting for 40 years! Yes, it is that special. As for the guests and home owners, they are the heartbeat of High Hampton.”

Family connections and memories are made every day at High Hampton Inn. From the luscious golf course to the friendly community residents, High Hampton offers something for everyone in the family.
